You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Houghton/Hancock Lift Bridge

Houghton/Hancock Lift Bridge

Houghton, Michigan

Houghton and Hancock are two of the coolest towns in Michigan, both built on some steep hills and they have this amazing bridge. I’ve never seen another bridge like it in my short lifetime thus far.

My Dad was one of the ironworkers that erected the steel for this bridge. He worked for American Bridge Company out of Gary Indiana when the Union elected to call a strike. Dad needed to make a living for his family so he and his brother Hap, worked in Michigan for several months on this project. I remember Dad would come home when he could and he brought me a copper tie bar one time. We sure missed him but knew that this was necessary. God love the man. mike
