You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Getting Lost

Wednesday, Nov 8, 2006 from Seattle, Washington

Another rainy day. Since I’ve had the day to myself I told myself this afternoon, “I’m going to try and get lost in Seattle.” Growing up in the the Upper Peninsula of Michigan I don’t exactly have much city driving experience. The city is always kind of foreign to me. I used a consider a town like Marquette a big city with only 22,000 people. This city thing will always be weird to me, but I love it. Driving to and through New York City during spring break this year made me a much better city driver.

As for today I wanted to get lost. I wanted to see the downtown area, go where the road goes, and maybe get a little advertising in for the tour and the Compass. So I drove around, a few circles here, take a right here, a left here, another left, until I didn’t really know what direction I was facing. And I just drove around in the rain enjoying it. I had to set out on my own and get a feel for the city. I wasn’t out to take photos, just to observe, seek, and enjoy.

Still not quite sure if I could live in a metropolis. I love it, it’s great here. But, the traffic, the parking chaos, I think I’d get tired of it real fast. At some point soon after this trip I’m going to have to live in a huge city for a while to see how I like it.

To wrap up this quick little driving adventure I didn’t get as lost as I thought I would. I’m impressed with myself. By chance I came out a couple streets here or there and saw some signs for the freeway when I was headed back. And sure enough, as I got back to Nicole’s apartment the hard rain actually stopped.

I truly believe that one of the best ways to see a place is to get yourself lost.

When I was married to Kayla's dad, we lived in Seattle for 5 1/2 years. I couldn't drive downtown because I got lost every time! So, kudos to you for not getting yourself lost. Also, when we first moved there it rained for 41 days straight. Wanted to come right back to Idaho! Enjoy your travels!!!
