You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Perfect Timing

Wednesday, Mar 28, 2007 from Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Turns out that I’m a lifesaver. Fate works in mysterious ways. My parents had just returned from touring the Smoky Mountains, just as I suspected. They were on their way back from one of the lookout points, 15 miles up the curvy roads of the hills (personally I don’t think it’s a mountain unless there’s snow on the peak). They make it 11 miles up and trouble hits! The transmission goes. They can no longer go forward, only reverse. They opted out of the challenge to drive backwards up the winding hill for the next four miles.

With a little lucky they had enough momentum to get the car turned around. Ahead of them, 11 miles of downhill road. They coasted all the way down. At last, they make it to the bottom still creeping forward towards the edge of town, and there it is, a stoplight and the fear of having to come to a complete stop. Luck would continue and it changed to green at the perfect time, the car continues to creep along. Two challenges are now complete. The third challenge was to pull into a gas station to call a tow truck, well the turn was a left-hand turn on a very busy street. My dad must have kept a lot of luck in his wallet because it was empty and they coasted right on in.

They take the trolley back to the resort, walk up he hill, and as they make it to the top my dad points in awe, jaw dropping, not saying a word. My mom looks at my father thinking he’s crazy (but c’mon, we all know they’re both crazy, where else would I have got it from) and wonders what he’s looking at. It was my car.

Turns out I saved the work, it was meant to be. While the car is getting fixed they still have the freedom of transportation. I thought I would get a break of driving this week, but I’ll be happy to drive with my parents in tow. So today, we made it up 11 miles and the four remaining miles to the top.

Looks like it’s time to get a Jeep for my parents!

Yes you saved the week and our vacation. Not only by showing up at the most opportune time to provide transportation, but just to hang out with you for 4 days, which put me on Cloud Nine! It was awesome to tour the Smoky Mtns in the JEEP Compass - I may have to get me one of those once we pay off the $2900 for the new transmission! It was super to experience part of the Hometown Invasion Tour! Thanks for chauffeuring us around. Love you lots....
