-Bugsy You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago. See what I've been up to for the last 16 years at www.bugsy.me |

Blog ArchiveHomeless in SeattleNov 8, 2006 from Seattle, WashingtonLast night. Grab my phone. Lock the door behind me. Call the ‘rents. Wait for the bus. Pay $1.50 and hop off at 3rd Ave. and Bell. Head to Belltown Bistro. Walk a block and run into Anthony (or tony).
I noticed a guy several feet ahead of me. He looked pretty well dressed from a distance, and he was for his situation. As I walked by he said “S**t” and immediately turned to me to apologize. … Posted: Nov 8, 2006 | Post a commentGetting LostNov 8, 2006 from Seattle, WashingtonAnother rainy day. Since I’ve had the day to myself I told myself this afternoon, “I’m going to try and get lost in Seattle.” Growing up in the the Upper Peninsula of Michigan I don’t exactly have much city driving experience. The city is always kind of foreign to me. I used a consider a town like Marquette a big city with only 22,000 people. This city thing will always be weird to me, but I love it. … Posted: Nov 8, 2006 | Post a commentWelcome to SeattleNov 7, 2006 from Seattle, WashingtonThe drive from Spokane to Seattle was, well, eh. I was planning to take US-2 across the state to take my time, see the scenic route, and get off the interstate. Well it was raining and pouring and I had a feeling it was going to rain the entire way. It did. With my prediction I decided to take I-90.
Fine and dandy, it was still a beautiful drive, I guess, if I try to stay optimistic. … Posted: Nov 7, 2006 | Post a commentStatistics #1Nov 5, 2006 from Spokane, WashingtonI’m reaching some of the first milestones on the trip. There are over 100 blogs and 500 photos on the site. I’ve been on the road for 57 days since I’ve left Baraga and have traveled about 6,000 miles in that time. I’ve completed stays in 9 states. The first leg of the trip is almost over. What I’m most excited about and can’t wait to see is the ocean! I’m almost to the west coast! … Posted: Nov 5, 2006 | Post a commentCan't See it AllNov 5, 2006 from Spokane, WashingtonIf I tried to see everything on this trip that I wanted to see and meet everyone who wanted to meet up and do everything that everyone suggested I would never get done. Which, I need to get done this time. This is just a trial run. I hope you all know that. And if all goes well I’m going to find a way to make a living out of doing this again and again, because all those things I’m missing on the first trip I need to come back and see again. … Posted: Nov 5, 2006 | Post a commentThe Movie ThingNov 5, 2006 from Spokane, WashingtonHollywood probably drives a much larger part of the United States than I’m willing to acknowledge. From the big bucks to the obsession with movie stars. And wherever you are no matter what the movies are there are people going to the theatre. Of course the great American tradition that my generation missed out on was the drive-in movie theatres. I still need to find one of those to go to on this trip. … Posted: Nov 5, 2006 | Post a commentFamily TimeNov 4, 2006 from Spokane, WashingtonRules are meant to be broken. One rule early on was not to stay with family on the way for my official hosts. Well forget that. This is pretty cool.
I’m staying here in Spokane with Betsy and Doug. Betsy is my mom’s cousin (or my first cousin once removed). They haven’t seen each other in 35 years. And that was at Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Well today I got a quick tour of Coeur d’Alene with my Great Uncle Alden, a retired dermatologist. … Posted: Nov 4, 2006 | Post a commentOne Huge TripNov 2, 2006 from Boise, IdahoThis trip is like nothing I’ve ever read, heard, experienced, or even dreamed about. I’m 62 days and 9 stats into the trip. I have 303 days and 41 states to go. Something about this week in Boise made me sit back and look at the big picture, which might be dangerous. All I can do is sit back and think, “Whoa, a full year of doing this is more than I could have dreamed up or ever prepared for. … Posted: Nov 2, 2006 | Post a commentGoodbye BoiseNov 2, 2006 from Boise, IdahoThe grand finale for being at Boise was attending the BSU football game tonight with the famous blue turf. Most of the crew was there and we started with The Hometown Invasion Tour tailgate party. Lots of people swinging by to ask questions. Some good burgers. And more orange and blue than I could have imagined. Then BSU went on to whoop up on Fresno making my record 6-0 so far for the trip. … Posted: Nov 2, 2006 | Post a commentThat StuffNov 1, 2006 from Boise, IdahoShould I write about this or should I not? Should I wrote about this or should I not? That’s the question that keeps going in circles around my head. And why not write about it. Sure hundreds of people could read this tomorrow, but I should really challenge myself to break the ice a little more and throw something new out there. And it’ll only be a short time before it’s covered with with all kinds of fresh content. … Posted: Nov 1, 2006 | Post a comment |
