You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

65 Years at Pearl Harbor

Dec 8, 2006 from 'Ewa Beach, Hawaii

Today was a special day for me, our country, and even more special for the returning veterans. I didn’t plan my trip around, but by chance I was fortunate to be in Hawaii today, on the 65th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I was honored to be there for such an even and special day in history. After walking through the museum, touring the USS Missouri, watching a short documentary, and going to the USS Arizona memorial I felt very somber. …

Aloha

Dec 6, 2006 from 'Ewa Beach, Hawaii

It’s beautiful, sunny, green, blue skies, clear ocean water, and gorgeous all around. I was greeted by my host Craig with a lei. It was night time so I didn’t get to see much last night, but I did get to have a loco moco for my first meal. It consists of a couple hamburger patties, gravy, eggs, and rice. As Craig was telling me it can clog your arteries pretty fast. …

Days by Population

Dec 5, 2006 from 'Ewa Beach, Hawaii

I’m in Hawaii! It’s a pretty small state. I thought it was time to split up the nation and look at how much time I would spend in each state if I split it up by land mass and by population. By population split between 365 days I would spent a whopping 44 days in California, while only spending 0.63 of a day in Wyoming. California 12.23% 44.62 Days Texas 7. …

Days by Land Mass

Dec 5, 2006 from 'Ewa Beach, Hawaii

I’m in Hawaii! It’s a pretty small state. I thought it was time to split up the nation and look at how much time I would spend in each state if I split it up by land mass and by population. By population split between 365 days I would spent a whopping 63 days in Alaska, while only spending 0.15 of a day in Rhode Island. Alaska 17.48% 63.81 Days Texas 7. …

Check Off Hollywood

Dec 3, 2006 from El Segundo, California

One more popular destination can be checked off the list of places to see in the United States (of course I’m saving some things for a second, third, fourth trip and etc.). Hollywood, hmmmm… I’m not sure how to summarize it. In a way it can be seen as the epitome of California and as a huge part of the lifestyle in U.S. culture. And to answer your questions, no, unfortunately I didn’t see anyone famous. …

From NYC to Venice Beach

Dec 3, 2006 from El Segundo, California

What a day. What a day everyday for this entire trip. Every night I go to bed feeling that. And almost every morning. Today I woke up to the sunrise in my hotel room in New York City where I could see the Empire State Building. Tonight I watched the sunset on Venice Beach back here in California. Sure I could have imagined something like that. But it’s a little weird to be living it. …

New York, New York

Dec 2, 2006 from New York, New York

In the last week I’ve been listening to Frank Sinatra’s biggest hit every day. I listened to “New York, New York,” more and more as the big day approached yesterday. And after an amazing day yesterday and an amazing day today I find myself laughing and smiling at myself and asking, “Is this really happening?” I’m fortunate to spend some time in NYC with my parents checking out Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Macy’s, the World Trade Center site and I’m happy that they also get to see the Statue of Liberty and Central Park in their own time. …

Big Apple, Bigger Surprise

Dec 1, 2006 from New York, New York

Today was epic. Today was a testimony to success, dreaming big, and going for everything I’ve ever known. Today was one of the greatest days of my life. Today was the most joyful day of the year. For over a month I’ve been talking to producers of Naomi’s New Morning. They wanted me on the show. It was in Oregon that they had me meet up with a film crew to get some footage of me on the road. …

American Fear

Nov 29, 2006 from Los Angeles, California

Here’s an interesting topic. The first thing I think of is the movie “Bowling for Columbine,” where Michael Moore focuses on the fear that the media drills into our heads. There are all sorts of ways that this fear can be analyzed coming from every source of media. And there is the evening news, filled with murder and violence. It’s all we see, but our culture seems to be obsessed with it. …

Breaking the Routine

Nov 29, 2006 from Los Angeles, California

More ketchup please. This blog goes back a few weeks back to Seattle, WA. My last afternoon in town I spent with my mom’s cousin Andy and his family. His wife Hannah and I had a great conversation about traveling, breaking the routine, and a continuing education. In the movie Fight Club, there is a part where Tyler Durden’s character talks about making an annual phone call to his father about, “What do I do now? …
