Blog ArchiveBirthdays RockFeb 10, 2007 from Nebraska City, NebraskaIt’s my birthday, and I’ll cry if I want to, cry if I want to, you would cry too if it happened to you. I have absolutely nothing to cry about though, maybe tears of joy and success if I got really sappy. But I always sing those lyrics on my birthday switching out the party and throwing in birthday, it’s a great classic oldies song.
February 10th is always a big day in the Sailor family. … Posted: Feb 10, 2007 | Post a commentA Pretty Small Big CountryFeb 7, 2007 from Nebraska City, NebraskaIn a matter of five months I have managed to make this rather large country (the 3rd largest in the world by size) quite small. For starters this is the closest I’ve been to Michigan in four months and I feel really close. Yet I feel really close to San Diego, which is the furthest you can be from Michigan in the continental U.S. I now feel like I can be anywhere in the U. … Posted: Feb 7, 2007 | Post a commentBed and Breakfast StyleFeb 7, 2007 from Nebraska City, NebraskaLate yesterday afternoon I arrived at the fantastic Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast in Nebraska City. This is a stop I’ve been looking forward to since I first talked to Jeanna well before I left on my trip. Six months after talking with her I made it here giving me plenty of stories to share at breakfast. Speaking of breakfast it would be one of the best on the trip this morning. … Posted: Feb 7, 2007 | Post a commentTwo Thumbs UpFeb 7, 2007 from Nebraska City, NebraskaToday is day #158 on the road. That’s a lot of days, especially considering I’ve slept in about 35 different places, have driven 14,000 miles, and haven’t been familiar with any town for longer than a week. It’s been 158 days of moving non-stop living out of my duffle bag. The road goes on and I’m loving it!
Another day driving, only about 3.5 hours from Loup City to Nebraska City. … Posted: Feb 7, 2007 | Post a commentLoup City CommunityFeb 6, 2007 from Loup City, NebraskaBetween going to church on Sunday morning and attending a soup luncheon, stopping by the local Snack Shop, attending an 8th grade basketball game, and stopping by for a meal at the Legion Club I’ve seen a large sense of community in this town. For a few short days I was welcomed by everyone. They all had questions to ask and some were quite thrilled that I stopped by Loup City and in some way helped put their little town on the map. … Posted: Feb 6, 2007 | Post a commentSuperbowl RatingsFeb 5, 2007 from Loup City, NebraskaMy Hosts // A+ The way families gather for the Superbowl every year really makes it feel like another big holiday. If all of the health driven new years resolutions haven’t been broken yet I’m sure they were all broken at one Superbowl party or another. Mine was spent with yet another couple who are hosting me for two nights here in Loup City, Junior and Bunny. They have five children who are all out on their own, but one of their daughters and her family came over for the game and dinner. … Posted: Feb 5, 2007 | Post a commentWelcome to Loup CityFeb 4, 2007 from Loup City, NebraskaWhen arriving in Loup City I met up with a George. George and his wife have lived in Loup City for three years after moving here from Boulder looking to get out of the city. George grew up in New Jersey and is still in shock that after a short time of living here in Loup City he feels like he knows everyone in town. However, he mentioned that he got funny looks when biking up and down the hill training on his bike. … Posted: Feb 4, 2007 | Post a commentRound V on I-80Feb 4, 2007 from Loup City, NebraskaFirst thing on today’s agenda was to get another oil change for the Compass. I used to work at a car dealership all through high school so it feels like a familiar place when I find myself back in one. I have an urge to get behind the parts counter and start running an inventory and stocking parts, even though I don’t know anything about cars and what part does what or goes where. … Posted: Feb 4, 2007 | Post a commentNebraska 101Feb 2, 2007 from North Platte, NebraskaYesterday, Ben and I took a scenic drive out into the countryside of Nebraska to the sand hills. At one point we probably went a couple dozen miles without seeing another car. At this time of the year you would think you were in the middle of the Alaskan tundra. It does have a beauty of it’s own however, and when the sun is setting it’s very beautiful.
Here are a few Nebraska fun facts: … Posted: Feb 2, 2007 | Post a commentTo NebraskaFeb 1, 2007 from North Platte, NebraskaThis morning I rolled out of bed in a lazy way from Kate’s sleeper sofa. It was quite cozy. For breakfast I had a bowl of cereal, some new kind that I hadn’t tried before. When I looked in the mirror trying t prepare myself for the day I was kind of scared by my morning hair, wondering how long I should go without cutting it. I mean it would be cool to go the whole trip without cutting it, right? … Posted: Feb 1, 2007 | Post a comment |
