You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Strangers

May 3, 2007 from Key West , Florida

Rather than writing about my daily activities and such lately I’ve been more driven by essay writing. My mind is buzzing with thoughts constantly. I’m ready to write a book. I wish my friends were around to have some great people to listen to me. Normally I don’t have a lot to say. In the last 23 years I probably haven’t said my fair share. My friend Stephanie used to get on my case for never saying anything in class. …

Dragons and Cabinets

Apr 29, 2007 from Tampa, Florida

While in college I always had a hard time deciding what to study. I had no clue, I still have no clue. I always thought they should have a generic degree where you have to take every introduction class at the university. How great would that be! Rather than knowing a lot about one thing I’ve always focused on knowing a little about a lot of things. Well, eventually MSU sent me a letter saying I hard to choose a major. …

Death Metal

Apr 28, 2007 from Tampa, Florida

Friday night was Jason’s last chance to see one of his student’s band. Kellan had been asking Jason to come to a show throughout the semester. A bit thanks to Jason for waiting, that way I was able to tag along. So there were Jason and I in the middle of a the crowd at the Brass Mug, the center of Tampa Bay’s death metal scene. It was a smoky bar. …

It's a Jeep Thing

Apr 28, 2007 from Tampa, Florida

…you wouldn’t understand. Actually you would if you spent 8 months driving one. I love my Compass. And no, this is not just a plug. My good pal Armin from Milwaukee asked me to share a little more about my Compass with all of you. Armin… here is your wish, my Jeep Compass blog. For starters the Compass’ slogan is “Freedom in a whole new dimension.” I think most people would easily agree that’s been the case for me. …

University of South Florida

Apr 28, 2007 from Tampa, Florida

Yesterday brought me to another university! I have had no shortages of seeing different universities, but I still crave more. Jason works at the University of South Florida in the theatre department. Yesterday he had the wonderful pleasure of handing out finals to his class! That’s one thing I don’t really miss. My tour started out seeing the costume shop and the building shop. I think I want to hang out in the costume shop all day and take some funny photos of different outfits. …

Panama City

Apr 27, 2007 from Tampa, Florida

Can I get some extra ketchup please? That’s right, it’s a ketchup and mustard day, but I’ll pass on the mustard. I’ve never been a big fan, mayo is more my style. Speaking of ketchup, for all you folks up north they have these great restaurants down here called Chick-Fil-A and they serve waffle fries! Pretty good waffle fries in fact, good enough to not need ketchup. But for the best waffle fries in the country you have to head all the way to Marquette, Michigan and stop in at Vango’s. …

Northern Mississippi

Apr 27, 2007 from Tampa, Florida

While in Oxford I had a great site-seeing tour. Sorry for falling asleep in the car John, and to everyone else on the trip. When I’m in a car and not driving, I sleep. I’m not sure why. I try my hardest to stay awake, but it just doesn’t work. It doesn’t take long before. my head is bobbing up and down. I would think that it’s pretty hard on my neck. …

Oxford

Apr 27, 2007 from Tampa, Florida

Did you know that they don’t have basements in Mississippi? It’s pretty rare if someone does. Even big huge nice fancy houses… they build up, not down. That’s how they roll. But if you’re going to roll to the Upper Peninsula stop in to the Hilltop Restaurant in L’Anse for a fresh Sweet Roll. They’re world famous for a reason. I’ve been on a trend to use completely random tie-ins lately. …

Florida Milestone

Apr 25, 2007 from Tampa, Florida

There have been some big milestones on the trip and I’ve reached one of the biggest here in Tampa, FL. It’s not because it’s the 31st state or because there’s just one corner of the country left to see. It’s because I made it to my good friend Heather’s place. A year ago I was finishing my last week of college and getting ready to graduate. Through August I was working at Kresge Art Museum at MSU as the web designer. …

Clanton: Country Paradise

Apr 22, 2007 from Clanton, Alabama

Throughout my time in Birmingham Lauren, Jenna, a few others, and myself shared several laughs about accents. I would enlighten them on a Yooper accent and how to pronounce “Say ya to da U.P., eh!”. Then I would take a stab at how to pronounce “Clatin, Alubama” with a nice southern twist. So after a few days in Birmingham Jenna decided it was time she brought me to her hometown of Clanton. …
