You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

I’m always encouraging people to give me some topics to write about. Well, it seems like people are always curious about romance on the trip (it especially came up a lot around Valentine’s Day). The idea of romance with travel has always gone together. The other night when I talked to some college students I knew it was inevitable, every class has a student that will ask, “Where have the hottest chicks been on the trip?” Alright, while I’m feeling brave I suppose I’ll be brave and walk out on a limb. I can at least dance my way around the subject.

First thing first, I didn’t have a girlfriend back home when I left on the trip. It was one more factor that made the timing great and allowed me to take off. One of my best friends got married last summer and my brother will be getting married this coming fall. It’s that age where romance is quite prevalent in my peers. However, I knew it would be a big sacrifice on this trip.

Say I have met someone on the trip (maybe I have, maybe I haven’t), but then what? In a couple days I’ll have to leave. I don’t have time to get to know someone on a greater level than what can be in just five days or so. And then I’m gone to see the rest of the country where I’m hardly able to keep in touch with anyone on a regular basis. I haven’t been able to meet many people my own age, it’s usually older generations. And it would simply be a little weird to tell a host family that I had just met, “Hey, I’m going on a date, I’ll be back later tonight.”

So that’s that to everyone who has asked me, because I know many more of you are wondering. But the real importance of this trip in terms of relationships is that I have seen dozens of different marriages. It’s inevitable that I start to learn a lot more about what I want in regards to those matters. Well, then again, not so much what I want, but what’s important.
