You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

New York City Weekend

Monday, Jun 18, 2007 from Brooklyn, New York

In New York City with my kindergarten crush and one of my absolute best friends from college. After seeing Devon in NYC three times, it’s time to get him out of that city and get him to the U.P. back home in Michigan. Anyways, it was a great weekend in New York City. Lots of walking, lots and lots of walking. I wasn’t as concerned about seeing a lot of the city as much as I wanted to just hang out with a couple friends.

I know some people who work hard, and sometimes I consider myself a workaholic. But never have I known someone to work as hard as my friend Devon. He’s committed and devoted, putting in more hours a week than anyone else I know. Someday when I can do it I’m going to make that kid take a vacation and we’ll go on a huge road trip together. He’s working on Wall Street as a financial analyst for Deutsche Bank. It’s one of the finest looking buildings in lower Manhattan. For a long time I’ve been wanting to see his office and go up in one of those skyscrapers. He gave Kim and I a tour of the building, starting out on the top floor with an amazing view of the city. And most impressive was the trading floor, there are seven floors of trading. You know it’s a stressful job when your computer has five monitors. Yikes! But that’s not the floor Devon works on. So now I’ve had a taste of ranch life, Wall Street, and just about everything in between on this trip.

I like to finish big, go out strong, and all that good stuff. So what could be better than to spend my last night in NYC by going to a Yankees vs. Mets game at Yankee Stadium. I couldn’t believe it! Kevin, THANK YOU! It was just my third Major League Baseball game, which have all been on this trip. I started it off with Wrigley field, and now this. It doesn’t matter if you like the Yankees or not, it’s one of the greatest traditions in the United States. The Yankees smoked the Mets with a score of 8 to 2. Simply one of the coolest things I’ve been able to do on the trip. So afterwards… I get a ride back to Brooklyn. Not just any ride, this is something I think everyone should do once in their life. Drive through Times Square in a convertible on a warm summer night.

I don’t know if it’s fair that I get to do all of this, it’s hard for my young mind to fathom.
