You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

A Pretty Small Big Country

Wednesday, Feb 7, 2007 from Nebraska City, Nebraska

In a matter of five months I have managed to make this rather large country (the 3rd largest in the world by size) quite small. For starters this is the closest I’ve been to Michigan in four months and I feel really close. Yet I feel really close to San Diego, which is the furthest you can be from Michigan in the continental U.S. I now feel like I can be anywhere in the U.S. in just a few days. A kid who used to be afraid of driving to new places is now saying “Bring it on!” No road trip in the United States is too big for me to conquer. I’m not sure if there is a National Roadtrippers Association, if there isn’t I’m gong to start it and if there is I might run for president. When this trip is over it won’t matter where I’m staying, my destination will be just a few days away, just hop in the car and drive. The whole country is just an arm’s length away and I hope to encourage people to get out and see it.

And some notes…

People ask me quite often if I get bored of driving. Well, honestly yes I do sometimes. But driving is one of the things I most look forward to. Seeing the country, a new destination, the open road, and a lot of freedom to pull over whenever I want, it’s the best.

The bed and breakfast was the latest delivery location for anything that had to be sent to me on the road. I forgot all about it until Jeanna mentioned I had a couple boxes waiting for me. Exciting! I was ecstatic! Packages on the road makes me feel right at home, from fresh brownies to a simple card it gives me a lot of inspiration. I’m one lucky guy. So thanks!

We were drooling after that breakfast menu...wow and yummy! Wish we had been quicker on the draw. We could have followed you around the country. ;) What an experience. Take care and have fun.
