You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Minnesota Day #1

Monday, Sep 25, 2006 from White Bear Lake, Minnesota

This morning I woke up to a picture perfect sunny day (despite MSU’s depressing loss to Notre Dame last night, but I won’t talk about that, it’s too sad). I had some delicious waffles to start the day. Then Mark, Linda, Anna, her friend Chelsea and I all went for a drive to the St. Croix river at Taylors Falls. One side of the falls is Minnesota and the other side is Wisconsin. Absolutely gorgeous day like I said. There were rock climbers, guys with remote control cars, kids climbing on the rocks and even several artists either drawing or painting.

From there we went to pick up Emily at the local apple orchard, right across from where former governor Jesse Ventura lives. What a great apple orchard. Hundreds of people were waiting in line just to get some fresh baked goods.

From there we headed to the Mall of America. Woohoo! I had to go to the Apple store for a problem that my Macbook is having. Grr. It’s a small world. One of the girls working at the checkout was from Calumet (about 40 minutes north of my hometown of Baraga). An even smaller connection is the family I’m staying with was looking at property in the same place where the Calumet girl’s dad has property… or something like that. It’s always great to meet fellow yoopers. It’ll be less and less as the trip goes on.

Also while at the Mall of America I went on a few rides with Anna and Chelsea who are both twelve. It was a fun time! I was at the Mall of America once with my family when I was about that age.

Afterwards we drove by the gorgeous capitol building and grabbed some great Mexican food and called it a night. There’s more too come soon of this great family I’m staying with and some other photos and what not. Stay posted!

If you get a chance before it gets too cold try to attend a car race on your tour. Try an SCCA local event, check SCCA.com or some type of pro event.

Sounds like you did some great stuff while you were here in my neck of the woods!
