You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Home Sweet Home

Sunday, Sep 3, 2006 from Baraga, Michigan

It’s been a full eight months since I was last home. But I made it. I arrived about 7:40pm after a long goodbye to East Lansing and MSU this morning. It was pretty difficult to leave a place that I’ve experienced so much of life in the last five years.

It’s good to be home. Really good. Since I’ve gone eight months without going home a couple times in my life now, going 12 months won’t be so difficult.

The drive was relaxing, and a pretty nice day for it. I snapped some photos along both Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. As I arrived in Munising I stopped at the Falling Rock Cafe. I was hoping to meet up with Nancy, who had left me an e-mail. However, she had the night off. What a great little place! Books, ice cream, coffee, and some deli sandwiches, a great combination. The interior is beautifully decorated with wood. To anyone driving through Munising it’s on the main stretch through town, check it out.

I was sure to make one more stop, this time outside of Negaunee, to the famous Big Boy graveyard. I was pretty sad when I found out that the Big Boy statues were all gone. But for the sake of memory, here’s what it looked like about six years ago.

As for the evening, it was my last night to relax. Nothing better than being at home. I’ll be sleeping better tonight than I have in a long time. It’s been a well-earned day. -xo
