You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

From a Dream to Reality

Monday, Sep 4, 2006 from Baraga, Michigan

It was just over a year ago when a crazy idea popped into my head. That crazy idea was to drive to all 50 states in a year, staying with people I’ve never met. But how would I do that? How would I fund it? How would I find people to stay with and pull everything together? At the time I thought it was so far fetched that I didn’t really tell anyone. I thought they might laugh it off. However, I have this drive, something that can’t be seen on the outside. I had all the determination, skills, and knowledge to know exactly what I was doing.

Now it’s a year later and of course it’s happening. I’d be a fool to let something like this slip by. Some of my professors, friends, and family were very skeptical from day one. After working hard this summer, putting to use everything I could, and after taking it piece by piece it has turned into reality. To me, I almost feel like a child, making my childhood dream come true.

On Friday I headed to Farmington to pick up the new Jeep Compass for the trip. As I went out back to first see it honestly felt that I had just walked into my dream. To see the decals on the Jeep was great, exactly how I envisioned it. It has come together just the way I imagined.

The feeling from taking this all on myself and moving it from a dream to reality is the greatest thing I’ve ever known. I used to dream of playing in the NHL or being a pro snowboarder. This dream was on that same scale and now I’m living it. -xo
