You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Comforts of Home

Tuesday, Sep 25, 2007 from East Lansing, Michigan

For one short week I was able to enjoy my favorite comforts of home. It was short lived. I feel like I needed at least another week it not more. Unfortunately, I was a little sick half of the time I was home. And to be honest I was a little dumbfounded to be home. After a year I found myself not knowing what to do with myself. This year trained me to visit 24/7, always having to try and find a conversation with guests, finding new things to do, and whatever else. The lifestyle of my trip is engrained into me pretty deep. But for the first time this year I was able to say, “Home sweet home!”

Of course my mom was ready and willing to make any of my favorite meals. I enjoyed “cheese dreams”, chicken a la king, tuna casserole, pink cookies, orange cookies, raspberry pie, lots of ice cream, taco dip, and various other things. I was able to nap whenever I wanted! That’s something I wasn’t able to do at all in the last year. I even went for a couple jogs around town.

After having a great Q&A session with the Baraga 3rd to 6th graders I had to hit the road. It’s funny that the drive from Baraga to East Lansing is one of the longest drives of this entire trip, including most of the drives out west. Leaving Baraga yesterday was one of the most beautiful days of the trip. The fall colors were starting to peak, and it’s something I had missed the last several years.

It was a great week at home and I’m sure I’ll be back again soon.

Finally - someone else who loves chicken ala king?! Tuna casserole is also one of my homemade favorites! Do tell what cheese dreams are, as well as pink and orange cookies? I miss taking color tours with mum and dad in the UP. I won't be up there until Thanksgiving. :(
