For starters… one of my favorite songs relavent to the trip is a song called “Another White Dash” by Butterfly Boucher, the lyrics read:
There is
Something exciting about leaving everything behind
There is something
Deep and pulling leaving everything behind
Something about having everthing
You think you’ll ever need
Sitting in the seat next to you
How true that is, everything I need right next to me for a year. Anyways I thought I would write a few things about it. I struggled with it but this is what eventually came out after a couple weeks.
Rules of the road:
- Call Mom and Dad at least once a week.
- Don’t speed, it’s not a road trip if you’re in a hurry.
- Learn to make sacrafices and live simply.
- Choose locally ownend restaurants and shops as much as possible.
- Smile and wave frequently.
Be prepared for the road:
TO STAY SAFE: Duct tape, gloves, jumper cables, and more are stored in the spare-tire compartment in the back. They’re things I hopefully won’t need, but if they are they’re available.
TO STAY WARM: There are clothes for every season and I keep my rain jacket behind my drivers seat, along with my sleeping bag and pillow. And I even have a tent.
TO STAY HEALTHY: Hand sanitizer, kleenex, cough drops, etc, are stored right behind the passenger seat where they are reachable at anytime.
TO STAY NOURISHED: Food is important, very important. I keep flavored toothpicks and gum in the center councel. Currely there are Twizzlers and chocoalte in the glove compartment (and yes, I do have gloves in my glove compartment). There is always some kind ofbeverage handy, an energy drink or water usually. For longer drives I usually have some crackers, chips, or my favorite Gardettos to snack on.
TO REMEMBER: Oragnized around the driver seat are various writing utencils and notepads.
TO KNOW WHERE: My road atlas is in reach at all times as well as my mileage and gas log.
TO STAY ENTERTAINED: My iPod is always plugged in, if I’m not listening to that I have dozens of CDs friends have made me, and I also have Sirius Sattelite radio, and the local radio. I also have a clicker hand counter, to count different things on the road.
TO STAY SANE: Bring a few thigns that remind you of home, a few things that have importance to you. I have a few of my favorite books, rubik’s cubes, and special things people have given me on the road.
TO PHOTOGRAPH: Most importantly, my camera is already riding shotgun, I’m always ready to pull over and snap a few photos. You never know when you’ll see that perfect sunset or soemthing unique. This gives you memories.
