One With My Country

I am one with my country. I haven’t been to all 50 states quite yet, but I’m getting closer. Quite honestly I feel that I could make a home anywhere in the United States. Surely I have a few preferences, but that doesn’t matter. I could be content in a small town or big city, north or south, east or west. There are good people everywhere you go in this country. And as I’ve said before I don’t believe that “boring” is a characteristic of a town, it’s a characteristic of people.

There are a lot of people out there that are losing faith in our country. Sometimes it’s hard when you watch the news at night and read a paper. It can be a big ugly world out there. However, no matter how many newspapers you read and news programs you watch you can’t really get to know your country. Here I was about to graduate college and start sending my resumes out all over the country to find a career, when I hardly knew my country. Sure, I knew the history, politics, and so much more. But never have I felt such an awesome and content feeling with my country while now 28 states through my trip. It’s an assuring feeling.

Somehow I hope to extend this trip to encourage high school students and college students to get out there and know their own country. Sometimes people head to more countries than they do states. That’s fantastic; I just hope they know their own country as well. At 24 I feel pretty fortunate to know it this well.
