You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

New Homes Weekly

Friday, Feb 16, 2007 from Topeka, Kansas

In the last five months I’ve had about 30-35 different sleeping arrangements. So, “What’s it really like to live with different people every week?” Every few days I have to figure it out all over again. First, congress needs to get together and make a few rules:

– Trash should always be underneath the sink.
– Cereal should always be stored to the left of the refrigerator.
– There needs to be a standard drawer for silverware, for example always on the drawer to the right of the sink.

Now these are just examples, but they would make my life much easier knowing where everything is.

Other stuff…

– I’m surprised how many people filter their water.
– Only one person has told me house rules.
– Some people demonstrate every light switch.
– Some people control the remote, some give it right to me.
– Some families eat out every meal, some cook every meal
– One person MADE me pay for his son’s dinner.
– A few people have woke me up no matter what, even with no plans.
– Only one person seemed to not want me at the house while nobody else was there.
– While some people plan everything, others don’t know what to do with me.
– I probably tell the story of my trip 3-4 times a day.
– A few have asked what they should cook for me.
– Tonight was my first time parking the invasion mobile in a garage.
– Surprisingly, I’ve had wireless access at most homes.
– Also I’m surprised that most homes have a guest bedroom, I figured I’d be on more couches.
– Most people have not been to Michigan.
– I always have to figure out the hot water in the shower all over again.

And there is probably more of this to come. These things I have to go over every single few days, it’s crazy.

Any of these other fun things you’d like to know?

Now this was really interesting. Wow! Are you having nitemares or dreams about these living arrangements? Have you seen any UFO's? This was a super post! Keep up the good work! Photos are just the greatest. Thanks and hugs.

hmmm tough question... smallest place... Well, John, it might very well be you. Your place was pretty small. But staying in La Jolla, CA in a 3 bedroom apartment I had to sleep on the floor in the kitchen, we had about 15 people sleep there that night after the turtle neck and sweater party. My stay in Winterset, IA was pretty small, as well as Chicago and Helena.

Who has had the smallest place so far on the trip?

Y I think mine in Chicago was about 400 square feet, but it was just me living there; my Mom grew up sharing the "guest bedroom" with here sister! I can't even imagine! Crazy Sicialians!

how many homes are people who found you on your website compared to homes that are friends of friends or relatives?
