You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared when launched in 2006. Back then, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few changes were made, but it appears as it did eleven years ago. A modern and responsive version is in the works. See what I've been up to for the last ten years at www.bugsy.me |

Take Care WintersetSaturday, Sep 23, 2006 from Winterset, IowaMy few days in Winterset were spent doing lots of exploring on my own. I drove nearly 200 miles going back and forth the bridges at different times of days as well to other spots around the area. Winterset is a great little town. It’s interesting to see how a famous movie changes a town though. There are definitely a lot of visitors coming to Winterset and Madison County just to see the bridges, even though there are other counties in the country with many more bridges. Without the movie “The Bridges of Madison County” I’m sure Winterset would be much different. My favorite part about the town is the courthouse. There’s this big beautiful old courthouse in the center of the town square. Facing it are the storefronts from all four sides. Towns aren’t set up like that anymore. While in Winterset I got an inside look from a new demographic, young single mothers. It puts a lot of things into perspective and I really learned a lot. Driving around Winterset in this decked out Jeep Compass is a lot different than driving around in a big city. Small towns just aren’t used to seeing some car with decals all over. I got a lot of funny stares. Being from a town even smaller than Winterset I can relate. It was a good week in Iowa. The scenery is fantastic, and I’m not being sarcastic. There were some beautiful sunsets and that’s about all it takes for me to sit back and enjoy a place. Take care Iowa. ![]() ![]() |
