You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Spelunking

Thursday, Aug 16, 2007 from Columbus, Indiana

I don’t know what I got myself into this time. I like adventure, but that comes with some limitations. Valkyrie warned me that I was going to get dirty and to wear some clothes I wasn’t too concerned about. Well not a big deal, but I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting myself into. It was four of us, Valkyrie, Georgia, Jeff, and me. Jeff and I were both rookies.

My first cave diving experience, a.k.a. spelunking! I actually didn’t want to leave the cave. It was 90 degrees and humid outside and about 60 degrees and moist in the cave. There were only a few parts where there was room to stand erect. A lot of bending over to make sure you don’t bump your head (I managed to only bump my head once or twice). It started by having to get on my butt and slide down these rocks into some nice mud. Then we climbed up this shaky old ladder.

I was a little nervous to get through some of the places, especially with the nearly 20 pounds I have gained. I’m just not as flexible as I used to be. The tunnel was coming to an end. We could see a glimmer of daylight. However, the hole to get out was about 16 inches and we had to slither our way over mud, rocks, and cold cave water. I was as flat as could be on my stomach and somehow made it out. A great adventure and challenge! If only it wasn’t 90-some odd degrees outside. Amazing! Glad I didn’t bring my camera, it would have been killed.
