You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Two Pounds Per Month

Sunday, May 13, 2007 from Savannah, Georgia

I am stuffed. For the millionth time in the last eight months I need to loosen my belt. Actually, I should probably just buy some new shorts, boxers, and jeans. They hardly fit anymore. I don’t know exactly what I weighed when I left eight months ago, I think it was around 175. And before all of this started I had some thoughts like, “Well, I’m on the road on my own for a year homeless and unemployed, I might get hungry at times.” Not the case. The last time I checked my weight it was around 190. Yup, I have a nice little belly going.

That comes close to average almost two pounds of weight gain per month and it’s not slowing down. That’s a lot! But at this point of the trip I am now telling myself, “Forget it! I’ll just eat what I eat and worry about it when I get back home.” That’s going to be a pretty big task when I get back home. Back in Boise I just about gained two pounds in a single day.

Well, I’m not hungry, I’m a pretty big boy now. And frankly I just don’t care for now. I’m on the road and I don’t want to turn down all the delicious food people offer me on this once in a lifetime experience. And when traveling for eight months you just begin to care a lot less about your appearance as you realize it just doesn’t matter. The number of restaurants I’ve been to is probably beyond how high I can count. And let me tell you, 99.9% of U.S. restaurants serve far more food than what’s needed for a meal and nourishment.

Well it’s not slowing down. I wouldn’t be surprised if I hit 200 pounds by the time fall comes. I’m living a good life! That’s for sure. Thank you country, for feeding me well.

Bugsy, Bugsy, Bugsy.......I just came from Mrs. T's house and was showing her some pictures from our time in Tenn. Her first comment - "say, Justin's face looks a bit rounder....has he been putting on weight?" THought I would share that! Try to get out and walk or run......or waddle, as the case may be....

Bugsy! haha you almost gained the 2 pounds in Boise, but that quickly came back up! I tried the challenge again last week. I can honestly say I still have NOT conquered the Big Juds Challenge.

Bugsy - you didn't say why you were so stuffed in Savannah - did you go to Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room by chance? Pretty much a Savannah landmark I was told (it's where I was taken the day I visited Savannah) and man, I don't think I've ever eaten that much before or since... And yes - don't worry about the weight - experience everything you can now, and you'll settle back when your life gets back to normal. As you well know, what you are doing now is not "normal" by any stretch, and we all applaud you for it! -Bill
