You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

The A-T-L

Friday, May 18, 2007 from Atlanta, Georgia

It seems there I’ve heard here or there or maybe everywhere that Atlanta is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. Maybe it is, maybe it’s not. However, Atlanta to me is one of those cities that have a magical feel to it. Just say it with me, on three; one, two, three, ATLANTA! Some cities have it and some cities don’t, even though I haven’t been there before. I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s just the name or maybe it has to do something with hosting the Olympics, which is an awesome feat.

While in Atlanta I spent most of my time wondering around Centennial Park in the heart of downtown. A small rain shower cleared away quite a few of the people afterward. It was nice, a little hot and humid for my likings, but nice. People playing ultimate frisbee, kids playing in the Olympic fountain, and people were only drinking Coke, not Pepsi. Go figure.

While the new Coke place was a week or more from opening I didn’t get to go. Though I went across the way to the Georgia Aquarium. If I heard correctly it is the largest aquarium in the country or world. A cool place. A little expensive, but worth while. What I’ve noticed on this trip is that whenever I go to tourist attractions I spend more time people watching and observing how they interact with the attraction rather than enjoying the attraction features myself.

The HIGHlight of Atlanta was visiting the High Museum of Art. Not so much the museum itself, but the exhibition of Annie Leibovitz: A Photographer’s Life, 1990 – 2005. There was a lot of beautiful photography. And it challenges my own photography in a lot of ways. More inspiration.

Thanks Atlanta, time for a Coke. And thank you Kevin for meeting up in Mariette and being patient with me. But a good conversation and visit is always worth a small wait.
