You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

The Southernmost Point

Thursday, May 3, 2007 from Key West, Florida

I have officially made it to the southernmost point in the continental United States. It’s a long ways away from just about anywhere. With that note, welcome to Key West, Florida! Of course it’s a well known destination for spring breakers and since I didn’t do the traditional spring break trip (I always opted to go snowboarding instead) this is my chance. Not that I’ll be living the spring break life, after all I’ve been hanging out with retired folks.

On this stop I’m staying with Bill, a former librarian from L’Anse, the town across the bay from Baraga. My mother and Bill know each other from the library board and as soon as I found out I had a great connection in Key West I made it a point to make it here. I’m spending a lot of time relaxing, which as Bill says is what should be done while in Key West. Shortly he’ll be making his way back up to L’Anse to spend his summer in the UP.

It’s a cozy condo he’s got here in Key West, close to Smather’s Beach. I’ve decided that I’m going to work hard in life so I can have a place like this just to hang out, where I can invite friends and family over for a week at a time and have no worries in the world.

And it’s hot down here! Way too hot for a Yooper boy like me who loves the snow. But I’m adjusting.

Key West is one of my favorite cities in the US - but yes, it does take a while to get there. Try and go to The Bull on Duval. Among the many bars, that one was my favorite. I am sure you will make it to a sunset celebration too. Besides that, relaxing IS what you should do in Key West. It is such a great place. I'm jealous that you are there now.

I live in Key West! The heat here is killer but I would never trade it for the cold.
