You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Meet Rice the Squirrel

Saturday, Jan 20, 2007 from Colorado Springs, Colorado

It’s about time that everyone learn a little more about my friend Rice. Rice has become quite the celebrity since him and I set off on this tour in September. He has lived the life with me and has flown to both New York City and Hawaii. He has been the inspiration to many new ideas and has probably made many more friends than I have. So here is a little more about the star of the show, the first squirrel to travel to all 50 states.

Be Rice’s friend on MySpace
See all of Rice’s modeling photos on Flickr

How Rice got his name as stated by Jen, who sent Rice with me on the trip…
“I lived in Brody Complex my first two years at MSU, and one day in the cafeteria someone was creative and drew pictures on the glass covering the food. There was a little picture of a chicken saying “cluck cluck,” a cow saying “moo moo,” and above the rice was written “rice doesn’t make a noise.” I found it amusing so it stuck with me. When my roomates & I invested in a squirrel door stop we had to decide on a name . . naturally we named him Rice since he doesn’t make a noise too.”

Wow from doorstop to national celebrity; the quintessential American story. P.S. If Rice wants to use that as the title for his autobiography, I get a cut.

Rice you're awesome! So jealous that you get to see all the states. You're the sexiest squirrel ever. You're gonna be a big celebrity soon.

It was so nice to have you visit Whispering Pines B&B back in February. Do you have sweet memories of Janie's chocolates and meeting PeeDee? Sorry you had to have a stint in jail. Hope you get to meet up with my friend "The Professor" in PA and congratulations to your team - Rice University - for making it to the College World Series! Maybe I'll see you again sometime and you can play with all the squirrels around here. And, don't let Justin get you tipsy (too often)!

Rice, buddy! So sorry about the CWS! Boy, your team gave it good go! Probably best, though, as I'm sure it might be tough for Bugsy to hoist you and himself back to the midwest for another national championship at this point. Good try though - maybe next year!
