You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Tiger and Friends

Friday, Dec 15, 2006 from El Segundo, California

It’s a cool experience for people who can say they say Wayne Gretzky or Michael Jordan play or saw a Beatles play in concert. Well, now I can tell my kids and grand kids someday that I got to watch Tiger Woods play golf. It’s another one of those experiences that was very unanticipated and spontaneous on the trip.

I happened to get back from Hawaii and the next day Bill had tickets to go to the Target World Challenge PGA event. The tournament was held at the beautiful Sherwood Country Club. Now I haven’t seen anything like this before. I’ve only been one golf course that I can remember, that was at midnight in Scotland when we wandered on to one. The course was wrapped with multi-million dollar mansions. Where did all these rich people come from? Well… the course was magnificent.

The passes that Bill had included entrance into the stunning clubhouse. I was stoked, I wanted to mingle with the rich at this private club, and live the luxurious golf life and eat a $28 breakfast. Well, just a little advice, if you’re going to such a place don’t wear denim or sandals. I didn’t see one inch of the inside of the clubhouse. No entrance for me and my casual style. Those punks! I just shrugged my shoulders, I wasn’t that interested in it, I was more interested in seeing the pros warm up. But this place is very elite. I just think, “imagine being kicked out of a skate park for wearing the wrong clothes.”

So there I was just a few feet from some of the best golphers in the world, including the best, Tiger Woods. I have to say the highlight was watching Tiger sink an amazing 40-foot putt on the 9th hole, and I had a great view of it. Even if someone doesn’t like golf, finds it boring, and has never played, seeing that putt is very impressive! Some of the other world class golfers at the event include John Daly (though people question his “class” all the time), Henrik Stenson Chris DiMarco, Geoff Oglivy, Fred Couples, and John Daly. Golf is probably better to watch on TV, but it was a great experience. And it’s something entirely crazy to see this crowd of people follow Tiger and cheer him on. At present day Tiger Woods is nothing short of an American icon and legend.

Thats awesome! My parents and my bro saw Tiger win the British Open at St Andrews like 4 or 5 years ago. Very memorable!

Yea, almost all of the Country clubs, even the Lansing Country club, have a strict no denim or sandals rule. Oh well!

Hey I saw that on TV! (It was raining, give me a break.) You should have made a sign or worn a foam finger so we could see you, that would have gone over well with the golf crowd. That is awesome! Now were you the one who called Tiger a cowboy....?
