You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared in 2006/07. At the time, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few backend changes were made to keep the site functioning, but it appears just as it did 16 years ago.

Finally Made it to Seward

Wednesday, Aug 29, 2007 from Seward, Alaska

Seward is a little town of a couple thousand people, about 2.5 hours south of Anchorage. It’s a little town I have wanted to come to for a number of years, thanks to the influence of my friend Ben. My dream has come true. Here I am in Seward, AK. For a few summers Ben worked here in Seward and would constantly tell me about it and tell me I need to get there. I even applied for a job here once at the military resort in town. That didn’t work out because of schedules and college and all of that jazz. But I have finally made it.

The drive into Seward from Anchorage last night was like something out of a movie. We came around the bend and out from behind the mountains came the full moon. It looked as though it was from a Photoshop-ed image, so big and bright, it seemed like you could see every tiny crater. I thought I had died and went to heaven. I truly entered another world here in Alaska.

It was a long day yesterday, the longest single day of travel on the trip. After a good night of rest hopefully I will be ready to go. Once again on the trip, for what should be the last time, I’m staying with a host family who has heard of my story through U.25 magazine. When Gwendolyn contacted me a few weeks ago and said she lived in Seward, I knew I had to go. Gwendolyn and her parents seem to have some great stuff planned while I’m in town. Alaska will be a great finale.

I'm really happy for you and yes you are going to have a wonderful finale in Alaska. I'm glad you saved it for last. It is definitely a place that someone has to visit to really understand it's beauty. Funny thing is that I know someone back home in North Carolina that was raised in Seward. Small world huh? Have fun. Peace.
