You're viewing the original Hometown Invasion Tour website as it appeared when launched in 2006. Back then, a site built with tables and flash was commonplace. A few changes were made, but it appears as it did eleven years ago.

Temerlin Advertising

Wednesday, Mar 7, 2007 from Dallas, Texas

I still haven’t had my fix of college lately even though I spent some decent at and around Oklahoma State University. So to satisfy my urges I spent a part of this afternoon at Souther Methodist University at the Temerlin Advertising Institute.

Michigan State University has given me a pretty big bug for advertising. That’s really what has lead me here to SMU. SMU has won the national title for the American Advertising Federation National Student Advertising Competition (sorry, that’s a long title) twice in recent years. Seeing how I participated and presented in the competition last spring I was curious to see how another university ran their advertising department and AAF program. After a disappointing client with Postal Vault last year, I’m a little jealous that the client for 2007 is Coca-Cola, the best known brand in the world. How does that happen, going from little ugly mailboxes nobody has ever heard of to number one brand in history of advertising.

Thanks to Bill, the AdTeam, and Temerlin for having me and showing me around. I have a feeling I’ll end up in the advertising industry somehow or somewhere down the road. But everyone knows that Michigan State Advertising is number one! I had to at least throw that in there for the competitive nature of the NSAC.

*Time for a side note. I’m writing this from Starbucks across from campus where I just had a lovely chat with an elderly woman. It was delightful. The staff at Starbucks brought her coffee and water over to her and she asked the guy working where he was from and everything. It’s apparent she likes being here near campus to see the lives of young students and talk about their lives and what they do. Naturally she asked me what I was doing here so I had to go on about my trip. She was happy to tell me she spent some time at the University of Michigan but had to move back here close to home. Anyways… the cool part is that when they brought her the coffee and water she said in a strong southern accent, “Why that’s just so nice, that just makes my day.” A sweet moment.
